Roy Beck Career Success

NumbersUSA Education and Research Foundation, a grassroots group with an online network of over 9 million residents in the United States, has Roy Beck as its founder, President and CEO. In the 1960s, Roy was one of the nation’s first environmental-beat newspaper reporters, having graduated from the University Of Missouri School Of Journalism.

As a newspaper journalist, he won more than a dozen honors for his environmental, business, and religious reporting. In 1991, Mr. Beck began working as a full-time policy analyst on immigration and population issues in the United States. Roy Beck wrote four books about immigration, the environment, the labor market in the United States, ethics, religion, and public policy.

Several periodicals, academic journals and media have published Roy Beck as a co-author of numerous sprawl studies. In 1996, he created NumbersUSA to implement the immigration recommendations of two national commissions, one chaired by former representative Barbara Jordan and the other by former senator Tim Wirth. Encyclopedia Britannica picked Roy’s Atlantic Monthly article on issues of too much immigration in a small city for inclusion in a chapter of the Annals of America as one of the most important writings of the 1990s.

Roy Beck appeared on hundreds of TV shows, radio shows, congressional hearings, university lectures, think tank and conference panels, and speaker’s forums as an immigration expert. In 1972, Mr. Beck received the United States Army Commendation Medal (non-combat service).

Clothing closets for inner-city kids (Dallas), the Multiple Sclerosis Society (Grand Rapids, Mich.), nursing homes (Columbia, Missouri), United Methodist Sunday school teaching (Ohio, Texas, Virginia), and food/transportation assistance to poor immigrants and others are among his volunteer accomplishments (Arlington, Va.). He has been leading an annual week-long trip for youths to build Habitat for Humanity houses and restore ageing poverty homes since 1990. See this article for more information.
