InnovaCare and Penelope Kokkinides are Bringing Medical Relief to Hurricane Victims

Hurricane Maria swept across the tiny American territory on September 20, 2017. When this devastating storm impacted the small island, it produced winds up to 155 mph. The storm was given a category 4 rating. It is considered one of the worst storms in the history of the island.

Millions of people lost their homes and were displaced after the storm struck the area. Properties, the Puerto Rican economy, and the nation’s power grid were severely degraded by the effects of this storm. Another horrible situation developed in the aftermath of this storm. Millions of people no longer had a place to receive healthcare. As a result, thousands of people lost their lives in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Without adequate power, hospitals and medical facilities are rendered almost useless. The reason why power is so important to healthcare is because of the equipment that is needed to help keep patients well. Doctors can do only so much without the use of electricity. Puerto Rico is suffering an energy crisis and that energy crisis is devastating the medical field. Millions of people do not have health coverage. They also lack adequate medical facilities to get help.

A medical insurance provider named Innovacare has stepped up their efforts to help the people of Puerto Rico. This organization has been in operation since 2012. They are one of the biggest healthcare providers in the territory. In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Innovacare stepped up its efforts to help people.

They partnered with Barcardi Limited to bring water, food and medical services to different people within the impacted areas. The medical services that Innovacare Health provided were given to hurricane survivors for free. People who were impacted by Maria did not have to have insurance to get medical help.

Penelope Kokkinides is the Chief Administrative Officer or CAO of the Innovacare. Her job is to manage the daily operations of Innovacare. She is an instrumental figure with things being accomplished inside of the company. Kokkinides met with President Donald Trump and other leading female leaders within the health care industry. They had to discuss various issues impacting U.S. healthcare.

Kokkinides told President Trump that he needed to increase the funding for Medicare Advantage. This would help many people in Puerto Rico to get the health coverage they so desperately need. Kokkinides has been an instrumental figure with Innovacare’s relief efforts. Hurricane victims in Puerto Rico appreciate the assistance they received from Kokkinides and Innovacare.
